WHAT IS IT?

THE COLLECTIVE IS A PROJECT-BASED PROGRAM DIRECTED BY MONIKA FELICE SMITH & MARYANN CHAVEZ. THIS PROGRAM IS DEDICATED TO PREPARING DANCERS FOR A FAST-PACED "SET-LIKE" ENVIRONMENT, COUPLED WITH INCREASING "ON-THE-JOB" CONFIDENCE. MARYANN AND MONIKA HAVE CURATED THIS PROGRAM FROM SCRATCH TO BEST PREPARE THEIR DANCERS FOR THE ULTIMATE "ON-THE-JOB" EXPERIENCE.

ON A TYPICAL COLLECTIVE PROJECT, DANCERS WILL REHEARSE, STAGE, AND SHOOT A PIECE WITHIN 6-8 HOURS. IN ADDITION TO WORKING CLOSELY WITH MONIKA AND MARYANN, COLLECTIVE MEMBERS HAVE THE OPPORTUNITY TO WORK INTIMATELY WITH GUEST CHOREOGRAPHERS. DANCERS WILL GAIN PROFESSIONAL FOOTAGE EACH MONTH FOR SELF-PROMOTION, DANCE REELS, OR JOB SUBMISSIONS. THIS EXPERIENCE IS TRULY LIKE NO OTHER; WE'VE SINGLE-HANDEDLY HELPED DANCERS ACQUIRE AGENTS, BOOK INDUSTRY WORK, ESTABLISH STRONG RELATIONSHIPS/NETWORKS WITHIN THE INDUSTRY, AND GROW TREMENDOUSLY AS HUMAN BEINGS THROUGHOUT THIS PROGRAM.

COLLECTIVE APPRENTICESHIP

THIS PROGRAM RUNS PARALLEL TO LUME COLLECTIVE. AS AN APPRENTICE, WE RECOGNIZE THE VALUE AND SIGNIFICANT POTENTIAL IN ALL MOVERS AS BOTH ARTISTS AND PERFORMERS. LUME IS ENTHUSIASTIC ABOUT SUPPORTING EACH DANCER’S DEVELOPMENT IN THIS DYNAMIC, FAST-PACED ENVIRONMENT.AN APPRENTICE’S ROLE INCLUDES COMING PREPARED WITH THE NECESSARY WARDROBE AND ADHERING TO HAIR/MAKEUP REQUIREMENTS. ADDITIONALLY, THEY ARE EXPECTED TO BE KNOWLEDGEABLE ABOUT AND ADAPT TO CHOREOGRAPHY IN REAL TIME, AS WELL AS BE READY TO SWING OR UNDERSTUDY FOR OTHER DANCERS DURING REHEARSALS. THE CHOREOGRAPHER MAY ALSO CHOOSE TO INCORPORATE THEM INTO THE PIECE AS NEEDED.FURTHERMORE, THERE IS THE OPPORTUNITY TO ADVANCE TO AN OFFICIAL COLLECTIVE MEMBER POSITION AT ANY TIME, BASED ON THEIR DEMONSTRATED DEDICATION AND GROWTH THROUGHOUT VARIOUS SHOOTS.COMMITMENT: 1 DAY A MONTH ON A WEEKEND
